Phyllis Wilson Obituary

Phyllis Elaine (Hummel) Wilson born September 11, 1949 passed into eternal life on January 4th, 2022

Phyllis was born to life to William and Irene Hummel in Columbus, WI on September 11, 1949.  She married the love of her life Cal on December 29th, 1968 in the midst of a Wisconsin blizzard.  She was the treasured mom to Dina (Barry) Roseland and Tony (Lynn) Wilson, a Spaghetti Saturday night grandma to Mitchell (Miah) Wilson, Spencer Wilson, Madelynn Roseland and Julia Babino.  A loved little sister by her siblings, Judy (Bob) Dushack, Alvera (Doug) Sellers, Marilyn (Clarence) Hellenbrand, Janet (Gary) Buzzell, Lee (Floyd) Rohde and Wilma (Lloyd) Potenberg.  She was a grand sister-in- law to both sides of her family and a loving Aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Phyllis was preceded in death and reunited in eternal life with her parents, William and Irene, sisters Judy, Alvera and Wilma, sisters- in-law Carol and Brenda and brother’s in-law Bob, Doug, Clarence, Floyd and Lloyd.  She also now plays in the heavens with her infant grand-daughter Julia Grace.

Phyllis graduated from Columbus High School in 1967 and entered Bellin College of Nursing.   After she and Cal married, she continued her career devoting her working years to the many facets of healthcare billing and administration up until retirement.

Some people would describe Phyllis with many colorful words such as wife, mom, friend, organizer, coach, secretary, psychiatrist, booster, trainer, chauffer and babysitter.  Those that knew her best understand these were all roles she held in the amazing world of Wrestling that is a staple in the Wilson family.  She was an intricate part of the Wild Rose Wrestling Club for many years keeping Cal and the others in line.  Whether it was organizing kids and weight classes, finding singlets, or filling in as the on the mat coach, whatever the club needed, she filled the role without hesitation.

Through the years, you would see Phyllis on the sport activity sidelines cheering on Dina and Tony.  The many nights of attending band and choir events, wrestling matches, football games, baseball games and musicals she was that devoted mom and booster to them both!  She never missed an event that they were a part of.  Watching her kids and her grandchildren succeed from children through their adult lives with everything they did was something that brought her so much joy.

In her retirement, she and Cal enjoyed many trips both in and out of state with great friends and family to chase the payout of the one-armed bandit!  Gambling was an activity they both enjoyed together and the competition was pretty fierce between them and when Phyllis won, but Cal didn’t, there was always a rationale story to accompany the trip.

Phyllis was a crazy ‘cat-lady’.  She and Cal rescued and adopted many new felines that blessed them beyond their imagination over the years.  We know that she is enjoying seeing them all again over the rainbow bridge.

Phyllis and Cal recently celebrated their 53rd Wedding Anniversary.  They always shared daily banter, constant nagging and lots of laughter through all their years.  Their devotion to one another is an example to us all of what true love can be.  What an amazing milestone!
