Ned Hughes, 75, passed away at peace on December 3, 2022 at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, Wisconsin. He was born in Fond Du Lac, WI to Leonard and Marjorie Hughes.
Following two years in the Army during the Vietnam War, Ned pursued a career in advertising/marketing and a variety of business interests, including owning an advertising business, co-owning WYNE radio, co-founding Fox Valley Broadcasting Association, and a partnership in a Hardee’s Restaurant in Sturgeon Bay.
Ned had a passion for being physically active and competitive with an impressive resume, including 106 full marathons, five ultra marathons, one full Ironman triathlon, and multiple other running and biking competitions. He was an active member of the Pacesetters of the Fox Cities running/walking club, serving on the board of directors for 25 years, as a past president, and as the race producer/director for the St. Joe 5K Run/Walk event benefiting the St. Joseph Food Pantry for 21 years.
Survivors include his significant other of many years, Susan, four children, Drake, Holly, Dennis, and Megan, six grandchildren, Aidan, Ronan, Carter, Maggie, Gavin, and Lilly, great grandson, Lyric, and siblings Leonard, Ted, Grace, and Peggy.
Heartfelt gratitude is extended to the caring and loving staff at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King where Ned was rehabilitating until he finished his final race. Ned always had a zest for life and said everyday was a gift to be lived to the fullest. Ned, your life in progress is now complete.
A service with military honors will be held 10:00 A.M. December 16, 2022 at the chapel at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King. A celebration of life will be held 3:00 P.M. December 18, 2022 at the Best Western Premier Bridgewood Resort Hotel in Neenah.
