Of Waupaca, age 82, died on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at Crossroads Care Center.  He was born on October 14, 1933 in Hammond, IL, to the late Forrest and Irene (Riley) Seward.  He often said his father had his feet planted firmly in mid-air, which is why Nelson attended 11 different schools in AR, IL, IN and WI.  He graduated from East Troy, WI High School in 1952.  He always wanted to farm and enjoyed showing and milking Registered Holsteins, and later enjoyed watching his children show them too.

He enjoyed roller-skating where he met his future wife, Ruth Hegeman, whom he married on September 13, 1958.  For the next 12 years he farmed with his Dad and he and Ruth had 3 children.

In 1970 they bought their own farm where their children attended Weyauwega School and helped on the farm.  When Scott was on the farm full time, Nelson and Ruth were able to do some traveling, later buying a motor home.  They started square dancing and made many new friends whom they enjoyed camping, dancing and playing cards with.

Nelson survived many health scares, but decided it was time to sell the farm to Scott and start spending winters traveling and enjoying Arizona.  He still did tractor work for several years and really missed that when he had to give it up.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ruth; children: Scott (Dawn) Seward; Lorie (Rick) Rodriguez; Steve (Beckie) Seward; grandchildren: Jessi (Ben), Alex, Karly, Lauren, Jake, Jamie, and David; great grandchildren; Jonathon, Christian and Alyvia; 2 sisters: Ferrol Yates and Ileene Seward; in-laws: Donna Dorn, Katy Hegeman and Dorothy (Ed) Yanke.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Lynn, in-laws, Eileen Byers, Betty and Ralph Pieters, Ed Dorn, Dick Schumacher, Glen Hegeman and Everett Yates.

The Memorial Service will be on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. at the Maple Crest Funeral Home of Waupaca.  The visitation will be on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Parkinson's Foundation or prostate cancer research. Thanks to the wonderful staff at Crossroads Care Center.
